King of Pop
Michael Jackson was a famous singer. He wrote several songs that are loved by people all over the globe. He was also a well-known dancer. Many folks have duplicated his dance moves. Michael Jackson’s singing and dancing have inspired many folks who are famous today.
Michael was born in Gary, Indiana, a little city in the Midwest on August 29, 1958. His father’s name is Joseph Jackson and mother’s name is Katherine Jackson. There were 10 children in his family, and Michael was the 8th child. He had six brothers and three sisters. Michael Jackson’s father loved music. He put five of his sons into a singing group. The group was called The Jackson 5. For five years, they got better and better by performing in talent shows all over Indiana. It was hard work. Motown, a famous record company in Detroit, liked The Jackson 5. Motown recorded their music and helped The Jackson 5 becomes very successful. Their first four songs were number one hits. They sang and danced on television and traveled all over the world. The Jackson 5 was loved by young and old. Michael was the youngest in the group. Jackson had a good voice and he could dance very well. He became the group’s lead singer. He was only ten years old!
Finally, the Jackson 5 broke up, and Michael Jackson starts performing on his own. In 1982, Michael Jackson created a record album known as “Thriller.” It sold more than forty million copies. It set a record. Michael Jackson was already famous, on the other hand, “Thriller” made him even more famous. People followed him everyplace. Children dressed like him. He was known as the “King of Pop.”
Michael was a star! He made music videos to go along with the songs. He went on concert tours, singing in front of people all over the globe. He sold millions of records. He truly was the King of Pop!
He won many awards including 31 Guinness World Records, 13 Grammy Awards, Grammy Legend Award and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, 26 American Music Awards and 18 World Music Awards. He was inducted in the Hollywood Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame and Dance Hall of Fame.
He married twice in his lifetime. His 1st marriage was with Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley, in 1994 but this union which did not last long and the two divorced in 1996. He married long-time friend Deborah Jeanne Rowe, a dermatology nurse, in 1997. The couple was blessed with two children, Michael Joseph Jackson Jr and Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson. The two separated in 1999. He had a 3rd child, Prince Michael Jackson II, from a surrogate mother through artificial insemination. The King of Pop passed away unexpectedly following a cardiac arrest on June 25, 2009. His unexpected and tragic death raised a global outburst of grief as millions mourned his death. A televised memorial was held on July 7, 2009, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Whereas seventeen thousand five hundred free tickets were issued to fans via lottery, an estimated 1 billion viewers watched the memorial on TV or online. Memorials were constructed and statues were unveiled all over the globe in the aftermath of his death. The Lunar Republic Society renamed a crater on the moon Michael Joseph Jackson in his honor.
Michael Jackson died in June 2009. People all over the globe cried that day. Many people played his music and watched his videos to remember him. He will always be one of the most popular singers of our time.
